Lingam Singing Bowls are without doubt the rarest of all Tibetan singing bowls. They are also among the oldest, with some dating back to at least the 16th century. They were made for ritual and ceremonial use, and have an amazing purity of sound. Named after the male principle, they are easily identified by a conical protrusion, the lingam, in the centre of the basin. This is usually matched by a navel-like impression on the flat underside when the bowl is turned over.

The last 50 years, Dr. Gloria Kaye has had a daily practice of yoga. She remembers the days in which yogurt was mistaken for Yoga. Now that Yoga is a popular discipline, she is able to share her years of experience with us.
Dr. Kaye has introduced her concepts worldwide; she has conducted workshops in Barcelona, Costa Rica, Belgium, Ecuador, and England. Her approach to yoga is based on traditional asanas however, she has tailored the implementation of the practices to meet the needs of her students.
She has been a pioneer in the application of Yoga to various challenges. Her doctoral dissertation was titled Yoga Therapeutics and addressed addiction, sexual dysfunction, anxiety, depression, and environmental illness. As a pioneer she frequently found herself many years ahead of her time. For instance, an additional doctoral dissertation on the effects of Yoga on a depressed institutionalized Geriatric sample did not please her dissertation committee and they did not pass this dissertation. Ironically, parts of the dissertation were published in the Journal of Gerontology.
Dr. Kaye is a published author and in the past had been a frequent contributor to the Yoga Journal. She has also published in professional journals and numerous articles in lay publications.
In the late 70s she was the principal investigator for a federally funded research project. With a staff of eight Yoga teachers, 240 individuals were serviced with her particular approach to Yoga. The results of the study showed that students used less drugs and an improved use of leisure time.
In the mid-80s she hosted a TV show called Yoga Therapeutics. Her guests presented challenging issues and together developed a useful protocol to correct the disturbing issues. Her guests included students with a learning disabilities, 90-year-old with arthritic issues and an amputee who struggled with structural imbalances.
